Stevie, my blind cat, has been a part of my life for four years now. I adopted her from an animal shelter in Cork, Ireland. She loves to explore and join me on hiking trips in the beautiful Irish countryside and mountains. While on a hike, she likes to go off on her own, but also walks alongside me on a leash and even balances on my shoulders.
Despite being a busy father of two and saving for my first home with my fiancee, Stevie remains an essential part of our family. We’re best friends and always will be. In March 2016, we plan to climb Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest mountain. This climb will raise money for animal welfare in the country. Stevie is a constant inspiration to me with her bravery, determination, and love of life.

Stevie relies on a blend of her senses to get around due to her visual impairment.
She possesses an exceptionally keen sense of smell.
She crouches close to the earth, allowing her sensitive whiskers to sense and assess her immediate environment.
To avoid any mishap, the feline relies on her paws to measure distances and ensure she doesn’t slip off the edges.
Stevie typically enjoys going on solo adventures and relies on my voice to guide her.
At the moment, we’ve got our sights set on a huge hike coming up in March of next year. The goal is to gather funds for animal welfare efforts happening right here in Ireland.
I’ve always found Stevie to be a source of inspiration because of her bravery, persistence, and zest for living.
My life is incomplete without her as she holds immense significance in it. We are so close that we cannot be separated from each other.
